For a long time, we’ve been working behind the scenes on a project close to our hearts, and we are incredibly excited to finally introduce you to Maani (معاني - "Meanings").
The idea for Maani came from a very personal place. Many of us want to go deeper when we read the Qur’an, but flat translations can leave us craving more context, and diving into massive, classical volumes of scholarship can feel overwhelming. At the same time, the fear of relying on open-ended AI tools that might "hallucinate" or misinterpret sacred texts keeps many from using modern digital platforms.
We built Maani to solve exactly that to give you a structured, deeply trustworthy way to engage in tadabbur (reflection), anchoring you directly into classical scholarship so you can pull out meaningful insights in under 30 seconds.
The Vision Behind Maani
Maani is designed around one simple, powerful loop: Read → Reflect → Share. Guided by our tagline, "Unlock your heart for the Qur'an," our goal is to break down linguistic and geographical barriers. We want to give every family a way to interact with the Book of Allah on a profound level, without losing the essential anchor of verified, traditional texts.
Key Features
- Word-by-Word Breakdown: Understand every single word on a microscopic level. You can tap any word in the Qur'an to open a deep, AI-guided breakdown grounded in classical scholarship and explained in plain language.
- Tap a Word: Instantly see its specific meaning, transliteration, and how many times it appears across the entire Qur’an.
- Root & Word Family: Discover its three-letter root and explore every other word grown from that same structural family tree.
- Morphology & Grammar: Demystify its linguistic form (Sarf) and its precise grammatical role in the ayah (Nahw).
- Classical Dictionaries: Read what traditional lexicons say, distilled by AI into clear, modern, and accessible prose.

- 5 Lenses AI Reflection Tutor: No generic AI chatter. Maani guides your contemplation through 5 distinct classical angles:
- Wording: Linguistic beauty (balāgha), syntax, and Divine Names.
- Qur’anic Worlds: Historical context (asbāb al-nuzūl) and prophetic biography (sīrah).
- Worldly Mirror: Personal application, self-purification (tazkiyah), and the soul.
- Connections: Structural harmony and cross-Qur’an echoes.
- Wisdom: Core principles and practical application.

- Grounded Answers (2-Stage RAG): To eliminate the fear of AI misinterpretation, every response is strictly anchored. The engine automatically injects the Al-Tafsīr al-Muyassar plain-meaning gloss as a mandatory context block, backed by an advanced vector search across 14 classical tafseers (including Ibn Kathir, Al-Qurtubi, and Al-Razi).
- Kickstart Your Reflection: Overcome the "blank page" barrier. One tap generates 10 dynamic, ayah-specific questions reverse-engineered from what classical scholars actually debated and discussed regarding that verse.
- Scholar-Populated Community Feed: Fully integrated with Quran.Foundation's established QuranReflect network. You are not entering an empty social graph; you are joining a thriving ecosystem of verified scholars and students.
- Streak and Goal Setting: To build a sustainable habit of reflecting on the Quran, the platform allows you to set daily reading goals and track your streaks. Keep your motivation high and your daily connection with the Book of Allah strong, making tadabbur an integral, consistent part of your routine.
- 100+ Language AI Support: While the interface is currently localized in English and Bengali, the AI reflection engine allows you to converse in over 100 languages while pulling context directly from traditional Arabic and Urdu scholarship.
- Strict Safety Guardrails: Built-in mechanisms instantly detect crisis signals, filter profanity, and redirect any legal or ruling requests (fatwas) directly to qualified human scholars.
How the Model Works
We believe the core reading experience should always be free. Maani operates on a freemium model where basic reading and reflection are accessible to everyone, while specialized deep-dive lenses (like Language, Connections, and Qur’anic Worlds) are available through our monthly or annual premium tiers to help support our AI computing costs.
Where We Are Now & Next Steps
The platform is fully live and optimized on the web. Currently, our native iOS and Android apps are running smoothly in internal tracks and TestFlight as we gear up for public app store releases. Moving forward, we are expanding our real-time notifications and completing vector coverage for our full library of 14 classical tafseers.
We would love for you to try it out, explore the features, and share your genuine feedbacks with us.
